Update
Sunday, May 25th, 2008May and June Birthdays
Each new month brings us the chance to celebrate birthdays with somebody else….provided that you have given us the date of your birthday. If you have not yet informed us, please do. We would love to be able to share your special day. We celebrate the following birthdays in our spiritual community: Gloria Shepherd, May 13th; Mandy Sanderfer, May 25th; Harry Bailey, June 2nd; Breanna Pringle, June 21st. Have a very happy birthday and we are very glad you were all born!
MAY 18 (SUN):
ADULT DISCUSSION GROUP, 9 AM to 10 AM
This program has now been expanded to every Sunday. If there are five Sundays in a particular month, then we do not meet that Sunday. But for the other three Sundays, our free spirited study group will continue its discussion of the book called Divine Providence. This thoughtful and reflective group is intended to stimulate and enrich our spiritual journeys and the journeys of others. Hope to see you there if you are interested in this important spiritual topic of how the Lord governs us spiritually.
SUNDAY SERVICE, 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM
The theme of this service will be about how are lives are best known as stories rather than statistics or any other impersonal way of knowing them.
BRIEF BOARD MEETING WITH JIM GUNN, 12:30 PM
We are getting ready to get the engineers in here to begin the sewer work and the precise surveying work to pinpoint where each lot is after we reconfigure them. That is what this brief meeting is for; kind of exciting!
MAY 21 (WED):
CHURCH BOARD MEETS, 7 PM to 9 PM
Everyone is welcome to attend these open meetings. Please come if you wish to understand more of the details of how the church functions. The new board members are now: Margie Knodle, president; Pete Toot, treasurer; Marty Chandler; Suzy Gardner and Eileen Franz. Non voting members are Sharon Billings, wedding director; and Rev. John Billings, pastor and minute taker.

OUTREACH TO COTTINGHAM RESIDENTS, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
This is a relatively new program for those interested in outreach service to the community. Cottingham is a retirement center in Fairfield. Some of the residents, who rarely get out, have little or no family and even if they do have family, still enjoy contact with others. The goal is to spend some quality time with them. We will leave together after we eat a bite after church. For myself, this is a very meaningful and often moving program. On Saturday January 26th of this year we went to Cottingham for our first visit. I met with a woman, Gladys, who is now bed ridden after a life of intense activity: her left leg has been amputated. She is hurting a great deal from not being able to do things that she so much loved to do. We spoke of her situation now, and other things, and the depth and sincerity of our connection will remain with me a long time. The ending prayer time together was deeply FELT and very moving indeed. I hope to see her again. If you would like to be a part of this program, let me know and you will become a part of it.
